SPOTLIGHT TAIWAN 2022
Spotlight Taiwan is a special program initiated and curated by the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Stockholm University. It consists in 4 features, 4 documentaries, talks with 2 film directors and 6 lectures taking place from 12 september to 7 november 2022 in Stockholm and Gothenburg.

The film focuses on the death penalty, following three condemned prisoners who committed different crimes, one still serving his sentence, one who has taken his own life in prison, and one already executed.
Filmen fokuserar på dödsstraff. Vi får följa tre dömda brottslingar som begått olika brott. En som fortfarande avtjänar sitt straff, en som tagit sitt liv i fängelse och en som redan blivit avrättad.

During the night of his 18th birthday, Jan-Wen commits a random shooting homicide in the crowded night-market, with his self-made modified gun and for some mysterious reasons.
Under natten till hans 18:e födelsedag skjuter Jan-Wen dödliga skott in i folkmyllret på den nattöppna marknaden med sin egentillverkade omgjorda pistol. Allt sker av en mystisk anledning.

Niutoushan, Chiayi, used to abound with lotus roots in the 1980s, for the villagers, digging for lotus roots equaled digging for gold. But the prosperous era has lost to history.
Staden Niutoushan, Chiayi, hade ett överflöd av lotusrötter under 80-talet. För byborna innebar att gräva efter lotusrötter att gräva efter guld, men den blomstrande eran tillhör nu det förflutna.

In the Dabao River basin, where the Llyong Topa indigenous community used to be, stands a "ghost temple" where hundreds of Atayal people were buried, victims to Japanese colonial rule of Taiwan.
Vid Dabaoflodens damm, där ursprungssamhället Llyong Topa brukade ligga, står ett spöktempel. Här finns hundratals atayaler begravda, som fallit offer för det japanska koloniala styret över Taiwan.
